Hensoldt Wetzlar 8 x 56 Nacht-Dialyt Binoculars. This model has eight times magnafication and a 56 mm outer glass. This wide outer glass allows a large amount of light to enter, and provides terrific low light vision. The fine German optical glass provides a crystal clear image. 8 7/8" tall x 5 5/8" wide at outer glass end x 2 7/16 diameter of each outer glass barrel.
They are marked at the eye-piece bridge; "Hensoldt Wetzlar" logo, "691297", and "Nacht-Dialyt 8 x 56". The outer bridge button is marked "Made in Germany". Based on the serial number, 691297 these roof prism binoculars were made between 1948 and 1962, most likely in the early 1950's.
These German binoculars are in great condition and as expected their age is showing on the edges of the black painted finishes. The optics are clean and bright. With only a couple of hazy dots near the edges.Likewise, the leather carrying case is in very nice condition. The leather tab on the closure spring latch is lightly flaked from age, but is strong. The straps and metal buttons are all intact in both the case and Binoculars. Hensoldt-Wetzlar is a premium German optics company, on a level with Zeiss. The quality of this pair would be hard to beat with a currently produced binocular.
These are collectable, useful, and are among the best optics.
