These were brought back by US veteran at the end of the war. The German Army and Navy used a wide variety of optical equipment, including a 6x30 (6 power magnification with 30mm objective lens), 7x50, 8x30, 10x50 and others, being the standard issued optics used by all branches of service.

Though this type was the standard, specialized personnel required stinger optics, and were issues to personnel on a limited basis. The WIDE ANGLE binoculars differ from Leitz's previous 10X50 model which it replaced by having a wider field of view.

While the earlier Leitz 10x50 had a two lens/three element Kellner eyepiece giving a 5° field of view, this LATER model has a three lens/five element Erfle eyepiece giving an approximate 7.3° field of view. The "Wide Angle" has a serial number range of 462XXX- 472XXX. Made of aluminum, brass, and steel by Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar, and dating aroound 1945, these 10 x 50 power WIDE ANGLE binoculars are in VERY NICE used condition! The lens bodies retain about 85% of their original FACTORY Dunkelgelb paint and finish, and the aluminum end piece fittings are 100% intact!

The focus adjustments still function perfectly on both eye pieces. Optics are VERY CLEAR and in PERFECT alignment! There is something loos inside the ocular, but it does not affect the performance. Some slight chips on the prisms. The right side is body marked. Slight marks, dents, and paint loss throughout. Comes complete with the original Ersatz leather case that is dated 1944. A VERY RARE example, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
